About Chateau Cos d'Estournel

Chateau Cos d'Estournel Facts

Across the street from Medoc giant Lafite-Rothschild, Château Cos d'Estournel stands up well to its famous neighbor. The winery dates back to 1810, when Louis Gaspard d'Estournel christened the site and began producing wine. He expanded his business as far as India and became known as 'The Maharaja of St. Estephe'. Eventually, however, debt would catch up to him and he would have to sell his property. Through the ages the vineyard has passed through numerous hands, now belonging to Michel Reybier.

Varietals Produced at Chateau Cos d'Estournel

Château Cos d'Estournel produces wines that contain an unusually high percentage of Merlot (40%) when compared to other wines from St. Estephe. Consequently, Cos d'Estournel wines show an enjoyable fleshy, chewy texture. Current vintages are more accessible than ever, displaying broad and often chocolatey-rich dark berry flavors and supple tannins.
