About Domaine Jean Grivot

Like the tortoise who wins the race, the Grivot family has steadily built up an enviable domaine in the Cote de Nuits, including three Grand Cru vineyards. The story begins in 1919, when Gaston Grivot sold the family's holdings in lesser areas to buy almost two hectares of the venerable Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru vineyard. Gaston would have a son, Jean, who continued to build the impressive domaine, this time through marriage, acquiring a parcel of Echezeaux. Jean's son Etienne would complete the legacy by acquiring his own Grand Cru vines, from the Richebourg vineyard. Today, Etienne is known for his flexibility, both in his choice of when to harvest and in his approach to vinifying each year's grapes. The result, of late, has been dark berry and mineral-scented Burgundies that combine elegance and intensity.
