Deals Like This Are Why We’re So Picky with Rosé
Many wine lovers—and, unfortunately, more than a few wineries—operate under the impression that rosé is easy to make. Nothing could be further from the truth. Winemakers have told us it’s actually among the hardest styles to get right.
Top rosés have vibrancy, freshness, persistence, and site-specificity. Making a great one requires eagle-eyed attention to detail in the vineyard and smart, alacritous decisions in the cellar. Yet tremendous demand for the category has deluged the market with so-so rosés, which means we’ve got to be beyond picky.
The 2022 AixQuise Rosé Coteaux d'Aix en Provence is an outright validation of our high standards.
Crafted by a 100-year-old winery from breeze-cooled vineyards at the foot of Mont Sainte Victoire, this limited-production beauty was originally supposed to go to an iconic resort in the French Riviera. But with the help of some insider contacts, we got there first. So instead of being sipped by a high-roller paying 1,000 euros per night and hoping to glimpse Vincent Cassel at the bar, it’s now a stunning Wine Access direct-import coup.
It’s a fabulous micro-cuvée rosé, and it comes from a traditional, highly regarded house in Aix-en-Provence that was founded in the 1920s. Their wines are informed by a wealth of generational knowledge, as well as unforgiving mistral winds and the hot Mediterranean sun.
Featuring an explosive nose of strawberry, grapefruit, yuzu, and a subtle touch of herbs, the attack is lush, lively, and juicy, capped by an electrifying finish. It’s thoroughly delectable, and it’ll keep your mouth watering and your backyard summer barbecues humming.
