Le Bernardin’s By-the-Glass House Favorite

There’s a reason Le Bernardin has made the gloriously crisp and delicate NV Pierre Moncuit Delos Grand Cru Brut its by-the-glass favorite for years. When the staff at the three-MICHELIN-star New York temple of luxury blind-tasted it against other potential by-the-glass Champagnes, this Moncuit cuvée always won. When we sampled it again the other week, we were reminded why.

“Not only are the wines gorgeous and expressive, they also offer terrific value,” raved Vinous’ Antonio Galloni of Pierre Moncuit’s line-up. Labeled non-vintage but made with estate fruit from a single season, this Grand Cru Champagne transports you to a world of elegance, evoking nights of black ties and evening gowns.

The winemaking team, led by proprietor Nicole Moncuit’s vision and her daughter Valérie’s steady work ethic, takes a modern approach in the cellar. They use only stainless-steel tanks for native-yeast fermentation and aging, coaxing the grapes gently and cleanly to their conclusion. Nicole believes this is the best way to showcase their greatest asset—world-renowned terroir—with minimal interference. Simply put, Moncuit is all about the raw materials, no more and no less.

Mysteriously, Nicole labels this wine non-vintage, despite its esteemed provenance and the fact that it hails exclusively from 2017 grapes. But we won’t question the judgment of the woman who has been making grower-Champagne par excellence since 1977.

Rather, we count our lucky stars. Her Champagnes have led to many a delightful afternoon at Wine Access HQ. And because this is a longtime WA member-favorite Champagne, we know the same holds true for you as well.
